Petoskey High School Meet

We have set up a high school power lifting meet for April 28th. This meet is open to any current high school student, with individual and team awards for top lifters. No supportive suits of shirts allow, but belts and wraps are fine.

The meet will be held in the Petoskey High School auxiliary gym at 9am. Please contact me if you have any interest in competing, bringing competitors, or volunteering at the meet.

I will post as more information is available. Also we have tentatively set the Strong Person Competition for July 14th.

My Meet Report

this was my first AAPF meet, and i must say that it was great, JJ puts on a great meet. i went down by myself and had no problem finding guys to help me out. i was really nervous going into it but was happy with the results. weighed in at 240 and proceeded to get my eat on. i cant remember the exact weights for all my attempts but it is within 2 or 3 pounds. it went like this:

squat-
635 PR
655 PR
688 X
went to deep and fell forward and could not recover, but i think that i could have gotten it if i had another attempt.

i could have gone home after this and been happy.

bench-
435 PR
462 PR
490 x
couldnt lock it out.tommy helped me jack my shirt. i have only worn the shirt 3 times and it is too big, so i am really happy with this performance.

dead-
535
578 x
578 x
both misses were red lighted due to hitching, o well.all in all a great experience and i got to meet a lot of great folks, i cant wait for the next one.

Meet Report

We had a great meet as a team, I couldn't be more proud of the guys that went up. They all stepped up and showed the hard work that they have been putting in for the past months. So here are there results.

James Proctor 155 JV 1st
Squat- 275x, 290, 325
Bench- 185x, 185x, 185
Dead- 315, 335, 365
Total- 875
I will say that James was sick that whole morning but still turned out a great performance. With a PR in squat and dead, i was happy, and to see the way he came back from 2 misses in the bench and smash his 3rd was great.

Matt Rapelja 207 JV 1st
Squat- 290, 300, 325
Bench- 185, 195, 200
Dead- 315, 345, 375
Total- 900
Matt went 9 for 9, and hit PR's in every lift, if that is not peaking I don't know what is. In addition he was 25 lbs from a state record in the squat, 10 in the dead, and 40 from the total. He will smash all of those next year.

Nate Greenwell 207 Var 4th
Squat- 365x, 400, 415
Bench- 225, 245, 255x
Dead- 404, 425, 465
Total- 1125
We might have been to conservative with Nate's openers, because he could have gone much higher in squat and dead. He is only 15lbs from the state record in the squat, and he broke it in the dead but was broken again by another lifter, and it was the same with the total. Also he was in a 3 way tie for 2nd and lost due to body weight.

Andy Manthei 212 Var 1st
Squat- 385x, 405x, 425
Bench- 275x, 275, 305
Dead- 500, 525, 575x
Total- 1255
Andy learned trust today. I knew his squats were good, but he was getting called on depth, he didn't want to move up but I made him, because I knew what he could do. I was very proud when he smashed 425 which was a PR, and he could have done more. He is 5 lbs for a state record in bench and broke the record in dead.

Jordan Washburn 275 Var 4th
Squat- 275, 300, 325
Bench- 250, 265, 275x
Dead- 325, 375, 415
Total- 1005
Jordan is another one that I know could have done more weight in the squat and dead, and more than likely in the bench. He missed 275 due to beating the press command, but he still had a great day with a PR in the squat.

I was so proud, none of my guys missed the weight because they couldn't do it, it was either bad calls or not waiting for the commands, which we should have practiced more(my fault). Anyway they got a taste for power lifting and loved it, I think we will hold a meet here in Petoskey in April and I can't wait for that.

Updates

Well I have been a bit lazy this week, and slacking on the posting so I thought that I would post some updates.

Caleb did well at states, was one match from placing and only lost it by a point. At least he is only a sophomore so we will see what the next few years hold.

Matt did well also, he took 3rd, although he could have beat the kid that got 2nd we are still proud of him, great job both of you.

This sat. is the high school power lifting meet. Our squad has been plagued with injuries, so I am not sure how we will do as a team, but we still have some very strong kids competing. I will update again on mon. with the meet results.

Awesome Job Caleb!

So it is official, I am heading to PA for the high school state wrestling championships. My brother qualified for states so I will be there. Great job Caleb can' wait to watch you wrestle. Very impressive for a sophomore just to make it to the dance.
